Ken has been involved in education throughout his working life, mostly as a language teacher. He spent four years working in Indonesia as a volunteer under the auspices of Australian Volunteers International.

He believes strongly in voluntarism and continues to actively support voluntary organisations that operate exchanges between Indonesia and Australia for secondary students. He believes that grass-roots, person-to person approaches to international relationships can be potent and effective in promoting understanding between countries and their people.
